Applications for a $40,000 Rotary Global Scholarship are being accepted by the 34 Southern Indiana District 6580 Rotary clubs through December 31.

Awarded on a competitive basis, the scholarship will help support an exceptional scholar who enrolls in a master’s or doctoral degree program for one to four years of study at an overseas university.

Rotary Global Scholars must pursue a course of study in one of Rotary’s six areas of humanitarian focus: Peace and conflict prevention/resolution, disease prevention and treatment, water and sanitation, maternal and child health, basic education and literacy or economic and community development.

Among other requirements, candidates must:

  • Live in Southern Indiana or have residency at a four year-college in the District (Note: Scholars who attend a four-year college outside the District and who maintain a residence in a Southern Indiana community served by one of the 34 District 6580 clubs also are eligible to apply.)
  • Present a plan of study and a career plan that align with one of Rotary’s six humanitarian areas of focus
  • Provide a letter of acceptance from an overseas university – and three letters of recommendation
  • Apply through and be endorsed by one of the 34 Southern Indiana District 6580 Rotary clubs.

Rotarians and their family members aren’t eligible to apply. 

No later than December 31, clubs will forward their endorsement forms and scholar applications to the District Scholarship Committee who will invite finalists for an interview in Bloomington on January 27, 2018.

The scholarship committee will forward one application to The Rotary Foundation for final approval, and the Foundation will notify the nominee of its decision by July 1, 2018.
