Dr. Steven G Becker 2017 Civic Award Winner

The Evansville Rotary Club announced Dr. Steven G Becker as its 2017 Civic Award winner during the Noon Program on Tuesday, May 22, 2018 at the Tropicana Conference Center Walnut Room located at 421 NW Riverside Drive in downtown Evansville.

“The timing could not be better, and the choice could not be more appropriate.”

That’s how one nominator stated the case for making Dr. Steven G. Becker the next winner of the Rotary Civic Award.

You only need look to Evansville’s Downtown to understand why Dr. Becker is the perfect choice at this time in Evansville’s history. You can plainly see the fulfillment of decades – no, centuries – of working to make a Downtown Renaissance come to fruition. It took many bold leaders to initiate the rebirth of the Downtown. But most would agree it would not have been possible without Dr. Becker’s steadfast commitment of bringing a full-fledged four-year medical school to Evansville.

Dr. Becker is the Director and Associate Dean of the Indiana University School of Medicine-Evansville and Professor of Clinical Radiology and Imaging Sciences.  He is Chairman of the Southern Indiana Graduate Medical Education Consortium and serves on several local boards. In 2015, he was appointed by then Governor Mike Pence as a board member to the Statewide Graduate Medical Education Board. But Steve’s dedication to the medical school for this region pre-dates that appointment.

Dr. Becker has been a practicing radiologist in the greater Evansville area since 1986.  He was formerly the Medical Director of Radiology and Vice President of the medical staff at St. Mary’s Warrick Hospital, as well as the Medical Director and Clinical Instructor of Radiology Technologists at St. Mary’s Medical Center and Welborn Hospital.  He was the founding member and President of Southern Indiana Imaging Consultants.  Before that, Dr. Becker served as a volunteer clinical instructor for over 10 years. He was presented with the 2015 Leadership Evansville Visionary Award for his work on expanding medical education and research in southwestern Indiana.

Dr. Becker resides in Vanderburgh County where he enjoys time spent with his wife, Carol, their four children and six grandchildren. We’re very proud to note that Steve is an Evansville Rotarian.
