READING ROTARIAN Cathy Sickman Rennner is signing up Rotarians for the Reading Rotarian program that will be the week of October 8-12 in the EVSC elementary schools. The book, Retrieving with Evie, is being donated by Keep Evansville Beautiful and Fifth Third Bank. Donate an hour to read to our community’s first graders. BANNER EXCHANGE Jeff Lake presented President Becki Alcorn with an exchange banner from a recently visited Phoenix, Arizona Rotary Club. CONDOLANCES Sincerest sympathy is extended to Rose and Robert Zigenfus and family on the September 6 death of Rose’s mother-in-law Marie E. Zigenfus. Memorial contributions may be made to the Rotary Foundation of Evansville. |
DIVERSITY The annual Diversity Picnic will be held on Sunday, October 14 at Old National Bank on the Riverfront. The family event will feature ethnic food, entertainment and children’s games. Rotarians are asked to bring a covered dish. Questions and sign-up to assist and / or participate may be addressed to Lois Duncan, Tess Grimm, Lezlie Simmons or Bill Wooten. GREETERS If you would like to be a Greeter at a Rotary meeting, please contact Brenda Diggs. Two greeters are requested for each meeting. Greeters arrive by 11:30 AM, greet all Rotarians and guests and enjoy getting to know the Club members. INVOKERS If you would like to be an Invoker (giving the invocation / prayer) at a Rotary meeting, please contact Bonnie Grafton. Rotary International has published a book of appropriate readings that is available for use. NEW MEMBER PROPOSAL Kendall Berry, Head of School, Evansville Day School, is being proposed as a new member by Eric Stroshine, with the classification of Education-Administration. Anyone objecting to the proposal should contact the Membership Committee. TRIVIA 1. The first city to reach a population of 1 million people was Rome, Italy in 133 B.C. London, England reached the mark in 1810 and New York City, New York made it in 1875. Today there are over 300 cities in the world that boast population in excess of 1 million. 2. The South Pole is actually a desert environment, averaging about the same amount of monthly rainfall as the Sahara Desert. 3. The Americans lost the Battle of Bunker Hill because they ran out of gunpowder and had to retreat. 4. The most widely eaten fish is the world is the herring and nutritionally speaking, the fuel value is the same as a beefsteak. 5. Would you believe that the distance from Honolulu to New York is greater than the distance from Honolulu to Japan?
