THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS

There are additional Rotarians who would appreciate your thoughts and prayers as they recover from accidents, surgery and ill health. Please continue to keep Roxy Baas, Jesse Stock, Randy Rohlfer and Judi Jacobsen, Alan Winslow’s wife, in your thoughts and prayers.

ROTARY ADDRESS AND FAX INFORMATION

IMPORTANT! Please change your directory information. Please be sure to use P.O. Box 1131, Evansville, IN 47706 for all Rotary correspondence including dues payment. There is a new fax for the Rotary office. It is 866-538-7635. All changes- address, cell / mobile number, e-mail address, employment status, marital status, telephone number, etc., should be submitted to the Rotary office

DON'T LOOSE THAT NUMBER

From Gene Warren: Professional organizer Julie Morganstern says many employees make the mistake of storing important telephone numbers in their cell phones. ”That’s fine until you lose the phone or the battery dies,” she says. To be safe, keep a paper version of the numbers. It doesn’t have to be a bulky address book; a simple sheet with the numbers listed is enough.

CHANGE OF BENEFICIARY

Is you beneficiary current on your important documents; i.e., wills, insurance policy, 401-K? When was the last time you checked your beneficiary information? Stay current - check now.

NEW MEMBER PROPOSAL

Pamela Martin, United Bank, is being proposed as a new member by Bob Musgrave, with the classification of Banking. Anyone objecting to the proposal should contact the Membership Committee.

KUDOS

Congratulations are extended to Ray Hoops and the USI faculty and staff on the engineering program reaching accreditation.

ATHENA AWARD FINALISTS

Congratulations to the two Rotarians and one Rotaractor who are among the ten finalists for the annual Athena Award, named for the Greek goddess of wisdom. The finalists come with diverse backgrounds in community service, careers and business leadership. The Rotarians are Tess Grimm and Wendy McCormick. The Rotaractor is Holly Dunn Pendleton. The overall winner will be announced at the Athena Award luncheon on October 18.

THANK YOU

Thank you Phil Liberman for the diverse August programs.

HOW PRAISE BUILDS POSITIVE RELATIONSHIPS

From Gene Warren: There’s a lot of power in praising people, according to Chris Widener, president of Made for Success and Extraordinary Leaders. Widener says it’s very important to develop successful relationships in life, and one great way to do that is look for what is truly good in others and then tell them about it. Widener says we all have a choice in our life approach, and that approach can either be life-giving or life-taking, meaning that we can either choose to be positive or negative forces in other peoples’ lives. In other words, you either spend your time and energy building people up or tearing people down. Which kind of person are you? What kind of manager do you want to be? Do you know how to build a person up? Widener says praise is one of the main ways you can build someone up. When you praise someone, and there has to be truth in the praise, something amazing often then takes place. Something starts to grow and change in the other person, and your relationship often becomes deeper and more fulfilling as a result. Widener says to think about what kind of leader you want to be: one who builds people up or tears them down? The choice is yours.
