NEW MEMBER ORIENTATION

New Member Orientation will be held on Tuesday, February 20, at 11:00 AM. All new members and any seasoned Rotarian, who wishes to have a review of Rotary, should plan to attend.

DISTRICT CONFERENCE

The combined district conference for District 6560 and 6580 is April 20 through April 22 at the newly restored French Lick Hotel and Conference Center. Reservations should be made directly with the French Lick Springs Resort at 1-866-379-2202 or www.frenchlick.com The special Rotary rate is $90/night. Our Club will pay $50 toward the registration fee. Flyers with additional information are available at the sign in tables.

HEALTH AT YOUR FINGERTIPS

From Gene Warren: One clue to the sate of your health is at the tip of your fingers – literally. According to the National Institutes of Health, the condition of your fingernails can signal underlying problems. For example: Horizontal depressions in the fingernails can be a sign of malnutrition. White streaks or spots on the nails can indicate zinc or iron deficiency. Yellow nails can result from lung problems or lymph edema (a blockage of the lymph vessels.)  Greenish nails may indicate an infection, either in the nail or elsewhere in the body. “Clubbing” of the nail, where it looks like the back of a teaspoon, can result from lung disorders, infections or cancer. Brittle nails can be a sign of thyroid disease or vitamin deficiency. If you notice abnormalities in your nails, check with your physician to determine if underlying health problems are being flagged.

Sincerest sympathy is extended to Jeff and Cheryl Lake on the February 3^rd death of Cheryl’s mother Dora A. “Louise” Heathcott. Memorial contributions may be made to the Rotary Foundation of Evansville.

GROUP STUDY EXCHANGE

Host families are still needed. The GSE team from Tochigi City, Japan, Evansville’s sister city, will arrive from Corydon, IN on Thursday, April 5, 2007. They will attend the Warrick meeting that Thursday. Team members will attend our Rotary Club meeting on Tuesday, April 10, then depart for Terre Haute. During their time in Evansville, team members will be attending cultural events and visiting local businesses. Host families are needed for the members of the team from April 5 through 9. Contact Mark E. Miller, mmiller@indidanlawonline.com, or 425-1490 if you would like to be a host family or provide transportation for the team.

ROTARY YOUTH EXCHANGE

A host family is needed! From Andrew Alexander: “We will have an opportunity for a local family to host our inbound exchange student Lubo, in mid-February. Lubo currently lives in Newburgh with Rotarian Roxie Baas and her husband Scott. Lubo attends the Signature School and rides to and from school with fellow students. Lubo is from Slovakia and has a good command of English. He is much like a typical teenager and had made numerous friends through school. As mentioned at our Tuesday meeting, we will help arrange transportation to and from school for Lubo as this is often a prospective family’s primary concern. Consider discussing this unique opportunity to spend several months as an ambassador for our Club and our country with your spouse, family, good friends or neighbors. Keep in mind our host family does not have to be a Rotarian.
