THE ROTARY FOUNDATION The Rotary Foundation is a non-profit corporation that funds humanitarian and educational programs that are implemented by individual Rotary clubs and Rotary districts. The mission of The Rotary Foundation is "to support the efforts of Rotary International in the fulfillment of the Object of Rotary, Rotary's Mission, and the achievement of world understanding and peace through local, national, and international humanitarian, educational and cultural programs."
The following are committees supported by the Rotary Foundation:
AMBASSADORIAL SCHOLARSHIPS COMMITTEE Ambassadorial Scholarships are awarded for graduate study in another country where Rotary clubs are located. During the study period, the Rotary Scholars are ambassadors of goodwill to people of the host country. The club's Ambassadorial Scholarships Committee is responsible for receiving and reviewing scholarship applications, interviewing applicants and presenting the applications to the Board of Directors for approval of club sponsorship. The approved application is then forwarded to the district level Ambassadorial Scholarship Committee for approval to forward to The Rotary Foundation. GROUP STUDY EXCHANGE (GSE) TEAM COMMITTEE The Group Study Exchange (GSE) is an opportunity for international understanding of cultures and vocations which promotes international understanding through this organized travel and personal contacts. Each team is lead by a Rotarian, while the remainder of the team members are not Rotarians. The Group Study Exchange (GSE) Team Committee is responsible for working with the district's GSE Team Committee to coordinate the logistics of the incoming team visit. The committee is also responsible for advertising, receiving and reviewing outbound GSE Team applications, interviewing applicants and presenting the applications to the Board of Directors for approval of club sponsorship. ROTARY YOUTH LEADERSHIP AWARDS COMMITTEE Rotary Youth Leadership Award (RYLA) was created to demonstrate Rotary's respect and concern for youth; provide an effective training experience for selected youth and potential leaders; encourage leadership of youth by youth; and recognize publicly young people who are rendering service to their communities. Each year, many young people attend a RYLA workshop to discuss leadership skills and to learn those skills through practice. YOUTH EXCHANGE COMMITTEE The Youth Exchange program of Rotary International was created to provide thousands of young people with the opportunity to meet people from other lands and to experience their cultures, thus planting the seeds for a lifetime of international understanding. Outbound and inbound exchanges generally last a full academic year.
